ANCHORAGE — A person died and three others were injured Thursday in a fire at a remote fishing lodge on Kodiak Island.
The blaze broke out during early morning hours in the lodge at Uyak Bay. The lodge is a former fish cannery.
The fire by late morning had been put out, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Meredith Manning.
Alaska State Troopers are investigating the incident and were making arrangements to fly to the site on the west side of Kodiak Island about 60 miles southwest of the city of Kodiak.
Troopers’ spokeswoman Megan Peters said communication with investigating officers could be challenging at such a remote location. She said troopers had not confirmed the death.
The Coast Guard helped transport the injured, who all suffered burns, said Chief Petty Officer Shawn Eggert.
They were taken by a fishing boat, the Alaskan, to the village of Larsen Bay.
A Coast Guard helicopter landed at the village airstrip and flew the three to a hospital in Kodiak.
