Want to learn how to paint big … really big? Visiting artist Cynthia Schildhauer is hosting a workshop for Juneau artists on Friday, June 16 to 18 to teach artists how.
The workshop costs $250 for the weekend and includes all the materials you need to produce a painting on a 6-by-5-foot canvas.
Schildhauer, a Master of Fine Arts graduate from Chico State University, will help students learn how to approach large-scale, intuitive painting and “conquer the daunting mystery of painting big,” according to the Juneau Arts and Culture Center website.
No experience is necessary to attend. Schildhauer has training in art therapy, and though she specified in a Friday phone interview that “Paint Big … Really Big” is not an art therapy workshop, she hopes to encourage participants to create not just for a final product, but for the joy of the process itself.
“The notion of paiting big, part of it is about taking a risk and cutting loose,” Schildhauer said.
Participants meet at the JACC from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, June 16, and 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18.
Schildhauer is a Northern California based artist, mother and educator. More information about her work can be found online at www.cynthiaarts.com. Tickets for the workshop can be purchased at the JACC, Hearthside Books and at www.jahc.org/box-office.
