ANCHORAGE — A woman walking along an Anchorage highway access road died when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle.
Anchorage television station KTVA reported 27-year-old Tia Smart was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Sgt. Ryan McNamara says Smart was struck just before midnight Tuesday as she walked on Brayton Drive, which runs along the east side of the Seward Highway.
The small SUV was traveling north and hit Smart near east 74th Avenue.
The driver stopped and cooperated with police. No citations had been issued as of early Wednesday.
The incident closed the road for about four hours as police investigated.
McNamara says Brayton Drive has no sidewalk but pedestrians are not prohibited.
