Peterson remains president of Tlingit and Haida Central Council

Richard Peterson was elected to his second term as president of the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. He ran unopposed.

More than a hundred delegates from Southeast Alaska, Anchorage and the Lower 48 gathered in Juneau and voted during Central Council’s 81st annual Tribal Assembly, held April 20-22.

In other results, Rob Sanderson Jr. was elected first vice president, William Micklin second vice president, Ralph Wolfe third vice president, Jacqueline Pata fourth vice president, Marvin Adams fifth vice president and Edward (Sam) Thomas Jr. was elected sixth vice president. These were all contested races. They will serve two-year terms.

Michelle Demmert is Chief Justice and Lisa Lang Tribal Court Judge.

Miciana Hutcherson was voted “Emerging Leader” and James Jack Sr. is “Delegate/Citizen of the Year.”
