Police arrest suspect in Anchorage credit union robbery

ANCHORAGE — Anchorage police have arrested a man suspected of robbing a credit union on the city’s east side.

Police said 41-year-old Ian Pagel on Tuesday was arrested and transported to the FBI, which will take over the case.

Police just before 10:30 a.m. responded to calls regarding a robbery at Denali Federal Credit Union inside a Walmart store on Debarr Road.

Police said a man handed the teller a note, received cash and fled on foot.

Officers found Pagel hiding under a travel trailer in the backyard of a home in the 6700 hundred block of east 12th Avenue.

Police said he was carrying the money stolen in the robbery.

No weapons were used in the incident and no one was hurt.
