Body discovered along roadside on Wednesday morning, with weapon next to him.

A man found dead from a gunshot along the side of a road near the Mendenhall Glacier on Wednesday morning does not appear suspicious in nature, according to the Juneau Police Department.

Police received a report about the man found by the side of Glacier Spur Road at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a bulletin issued Friday by JPD.

“It was reported that the male was found on the ground outside of a vehicle, next to the gated gravel parking lot, just before the Mendenhall Glacier,” the bulletin notes. “The cause of death appears to be from a single gunshot wound, and a firearm was located next to the body. The cause of death is not considered suspicious at this time. The body of the deceased is being sent to the Alaska Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.”
