Police & Fire for Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017

Burglary

• At 11:49 a.m. Saturday, the Juneau Police Department received a report of unauthorized entry into a building in the 200 block of Front Street. An estimated $500 in damage was sustained and nothing was missing.

Death

• At 11:51 a.m. Saturday, JPD responded to an unattended death of an 80-year-old man in the 600 block of Twelfth Street, which was found to be of natural causes.

Disorderly conduct

• At 1:45 a.m. Saturday, JPD responded to an incident of disorderly conduct in the 100 block of Front Street. Alcohol was involved.

Disturbance

• At 2:59 a.m. Saturday, JPD received a report of possible terroristic threatening in the 9300 block of Glacier Highway. Investigation continues.

Domestic violence

• At 10:13 p.m. Friday, JPD arrested a 38-year-old man in the Juneau area for domestic violence assault, and took him to Lemon Creek Correctional Center.

Drunken driving

• At 1:46 a.m. Sunday, Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan conducted a welfare check on a Dodge van after seeing the driver appeared to have pulled over and fallen asleep behind the wheel. Daniel Carraway, 49, of Ketchikan, was arrested for DUI and taken to Ketchikan Correctional Center. He was also issued a citation for open container of alcohol.

• At 4:08 a.m. Sunday, Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan responded to a collision where it appeared a vehicle drove into the ditch and collided with a rock wall, then fled the area. Debris was scattered across both lanes of travel causing a traffic hazard. Troopers cleared the roadway and later located a 2000 Chevrolet flatbed truck with substantial front-end damage. The driver was not in the vehicle and was located a short distance away. Investigation revealed that Nikolas Perry, 20, of Wasilla was driving while impaired by alcohol. Perry was also found to be on felony probation. Perry was arrested for DUI, failure to give immediate notice of an accident, and probation violation and taken to Ketchikan Correctional Center.

Fire and medical

• On Friday, Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to 11 EMS calls in the area throughout the day.

• On Saturday, CCFR responded to 15 EMS calls and two medical transports. At 6:33 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a residence on Canyon Drive for dysfunctional smoke detectors; they replaced batteries, placed a temporary smoke detector in the home and advised the home owner to have the system repaired. At 3:55 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire alarm on Gastineau Avenue that had been triggered by burnt food.

• On Sunday, CCFR responded to nine EMS calls and one medical transport. At 9:46 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a fire alarm on Glacier Highway that sounded due to dust, lack of maintenance or similar issue. At 9:51 a.m., they were dispatched to a fire alarm on Franklin Street triggered by burnt food. At 7:36 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a stove fire on Parkwood Drive, which had been extinguished by the homeowner.

Fraud

• At 6:54 p.m. Friday, JPD received a fraud report in the 2200 block of Trout Street. Investigation continues.

• At 11:51 a.m. Saturday, JPD responded to a reported fraud in the 5100 block of Glacier Highway.

Theft

• At 10:35 p.m. Friday, JPD responded to a report by a 41-year-old man in the 8200 block of Poplar Avenue regarding the theft of heating fuel. There were no leads or suspects.

Vandalism

• At 7:49 a.m. Saturday, JPD responded to a report in the 200 block of Gold Street that a 25-year-old man smashed a mailbox and vehicle window. Investigation continues.
