At just before noon Monday, a caller reported to the Juneau Police Department that they had found a body on Douglas Island near the Douglas Bridge.
The deceased was identified as Juneau resident Anthony N. Malacaro, 36, police said in a release. Police said the cause of death appears to be from a gunshot, and a handgun was recovered near the body.
The preliminary investigation shows that no foul play is suspected, according to the release. Next of kin has been notified.
JPD is still investigating the death, and Malacaro’s body will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
Malacaro, who worked in the Juneau Empire’s mailroom, was found on the north side of the bridge, near an electric substation and Trucano Construction, in the 8500 block of Douglas Highway.
