If you think a deal you got on a gun or gold recently in Juneau was too good to be true, you might be right.
According to a release from the Juneau Police Department, there were multiple burglaries at Juneau businesses and residences in February that resulted in stolen guns and gold nuggets.
The release did not specify how many guns or how much gold was taken, but referred to both quantities as “large.” JPD officers are looking to track down these guns and are asking that if people suspect they have bought a stolen gun or stolen gold that they report it to JPD and give a description of the weapon or gold. If people have bought one of those items from someone they don’t know, they should also contact JPD and describe the seller.
JPD Lt. Jeremy Weske said one way to tell that a weapon is stolen is if the price seems almost too good to accept. Weske said oftentimes when he interviews people who have turned in stolen guns, they say they were surprised at how good the deal was when they bought them.
“Sometimes people will buy stuff and they think to themselves, ‘Boy this is a surprisingly good deal,’” Weske said. “In the back of their mind that might cause them some pause but not enough to not buy it.”
If people hear or see of anyone selling firearms or gold nuggets and they seem suspicious, JPD also wants to hear of that.
