Police have arrested a man who allegedly broke into the Merchant’s Wharf building and stole at $600 worth of property early Saturday morning.
At 6:25 a.m. the Juneau Police Department received a report of a burglary at the wharf downtown. After watching video footage of the break-in, police determined that Matthew G. Ritchey, 30, was behind the burglary, according to a JPD press release.
Ritchey allegedly accessed the building, located at 2 Marine Way, through a window. According to police, he then broke into the upstairs office from which he reportedly stole hundreds of dollars of property by smashing a window.
Officers arrested Ritchey downtown later that day and charged him with second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree theft. Ritchey is being held in the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail pending his arraignment.
