Juneau police responded to a report of a death on campus at the University of Alaska Southeast Sunday night, according to authorities.
The person who died is believed to be a 50-year-old man who recently enrolled for the spring semester, university officials said. The man was not named in a university news release.
Foul play is not suspected and there’s no risk to the campus community, UAS Public Information Officer Keni Campbell said in the release. Next of kin has been notified.
The man’s body was found in a housing building, Campbell said by phone Monday. She said it was the first death on campus in “quite a while.”
Campus leadership is arranging support for any students or staff impacted by the death, and counseling services are being made available. Counselors are available from 1-5 p.m. Monday at the housing lodge. Classes start Tuesday, Campbell said, and those looking for support can call Student Services at 796-6100 and make an appointment with a counselor.
