Members of a counter-drug task force arrested an Arizona resident on Tuesday in the course of an investigation at Juneau International Airport.
Sunyata Shanks, 40, was arrested and charged with felony second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance and felony third-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release.
Members of the Southeast Alaska Cities against Drugs, acting on information that Shanks was in possession of illegal narcotics, contacted her about 4:30 p.m. as she arrived in Juneau, Campbell said. During the investigation, law enforcement officers found 190.43 grams of counterfeit oxycodone pills and 62.98 grams of methamphetamine on Shanks’ person. The counterfeit oxycodone is suspected to contain fentanyl, Campbell said.
Taken altogether, Juneau police assessed the street value of the drugs seized at $64,560, Campbell said.
Shanks was arrested and taken to Lemon Creek Correctional Center. A preliminary hearing for Shanks is scheduled for Feb. 18.
