The Juneau Police Department will be increasing its operational presence in town over the Memorial Day weekend to discourage driving under the influence, the department announced.
“The Juneau Police Department will have additional officers working throughout the weekend to conduct extra patrol activities, traffic safety, and DUI enforcement,” said Lt. Krag Campbell in a news release. “The Mobile Incident Command Vehicle will be staffed and deployed out the road Saturday afternoon through Monday morning.”
From May 28 to May 31, the Juneau Crime Line will also be doubling its awards for those who report an intoxicated driver leading to an arrest from $200 to $400, according to the news release.
“We encourage everyone to wear seat belts, observe speed limits, avoid distracted driving, and call for safe and sober rides if needed,” Campbell said. “Have fun and be careful while out and about during this eventful weekend.”
