The resources committee of the Alaska House of Representatives will take public testimony at 1 p.m. today on a proposed increase to the state’s mining tax.
The increase, proposed by Gov. Bill Walker to partially fill the state’s $3.7 billion annual deficit, would raise about $6 million per year by increasing the effective tax rate on the state’s largest mines from 7 percent to 9 percent. In 2014, 13 mines or companies earned at least $100,000 and fell into that tax bracket.
To offer testimony, visit Capitol Room 124 or call 465-4527 or 465-3473.
