FORT KENT, Maine — Martin Massicotte of Quebec has won his seventh Can-Am Crown, the biggest sled dog race in Maine.
Massicotte and his dogs arrived in Fort Kent at 5:45 a.m. at the end of the nearly 250-mile race across the wilderness of northern Maine. Massicotte finished the race in just under 29 hours.
More than a dozen teams are participating in the Can-Am Crown. It serves as a qualifier for the Iditarod across Alaska.
Denis Tremblay, also of Quebec, finished second at 29 hours, 49 minutes. Matthew Schmidt of Minnesota finished third at 30:27. The top Mainer was Ashley Patterson of Shirley Mills, who finished fifth at 32:37.
The race began Saturday in downtown in Fort Kent.
