When the bookstore’s a-rocking, Rainy Retreat Books wants you to come a-knocking Saturday night.
Rainy Retreat Books is hosting Gamble and the High Costa Living for a “Big Band, Tiny Bookstore” event Saturday at 8 p.m. The event is free, though as the name of the event says, the bookstore is fairly small (and the band is large) and space will be limited.
The bookstore, located at 113 Seward St. downtown, changed hands in mid-June, as Alexei Painter and Tori Weaver now run it after Don and Toni Birdseye owned the store for the past 15 years.
Saturday’s event also marks the start of a new endeavor for the store, as it will now sell used vinyl records. Store Manager Greg Ordner said there seems to be a market for vinyl in Juneau, and Painter’s musical interest has helped spur the new venture.
“Alexei is in a couple different bands around town and there’s music in his blood,” Ordner explained, “and vinyl’s on its way back.”
