A pair of hikers from New York called for help on Wednesday night when they were unable hike down Mount Roberts, according to an Alaska State Trooper dispatch online.
Troopers received a call from Jody Avirgan, 35, around 7:37 p.m. that he was hiking with Kathlyn Clark, 33, on the Mount Roberts trail when Clark was unable to continue because they left the main trail and the terrain became too steep and dangerous to continue.
Juneau Mountain Rescue and the Southeast Alaska Dogs Organized for Ground Search were flown to the search area by Temsco Helicopters and located the hikers on a steep portion of the mountain. Rescuers were able to successfully escort Avirgan and Clark off of the mountain.
