The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has begun the process of finding an engineer to suggest ideas for fixing two of Juneau’s busiest road intersections.
The Fred Meyer intersection at Egan Drive and the corner of Riverside Drive and Stephen Richards Memorial Drive are being considered for improvements, but DOT wants an engineer to help it pick the right fix.
According to DOT’s request for proposals, the options at Stephen Richards “include a two-way stop controlled intersection, a four-way stop controlled intersection, a signalized intersection, and a compact roundabout.”
At the Fred Meyer intersection, formally known as Egan Dr. and Yandukin, the options include extending Lemon Spur Road to the McNugget intersection.
The Fred Meyer request for proposals closes March 8 and has an expected cost between $150,000 and $200,000.
The Stephen Richards request closes March 3 and has a cost of between $100,000 and $150,000.
