Prior to beginning their budget process, the members of the Board of Education are hoping to hear from the public.
There will be two public forums this week to give people a look into the budget process for the 2018-19 school year. The first will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Thunder Mountain High School library, and the second will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Juneau-Douglas High School budget.
The meetings will provide a bit more information about how the budget process works. The Board of Education uses what is called a zero-based budget building system, which prioritizes spending so that items with higher priorities are funded first as revenue is available.
To prepare for the meetings and for budget season, interested people can head to www.juneauschools.org and go to the “Links” section on the right side of the page to find budget information, documents and reports. To make suggestions or ask questions about the budget, email budgetinput@juneauschools.org. All comments and suggestions will be considered as part of the budget process.
