The end of the month also marks the end of the application period for the Senior Sales Tax Hardship rebate.
Rebate applications must be either received by the City and Borough of Juneau Sales Tax Office or be postmarked no later than June 30. Couples may file a joint application. The application must include each applicant’s 2016 Federal Income Tax Return or a completed copy of the CBJ Hardship Sales Tax Rebate Income Affidavit. Applicants also must have a CBJ Senior Sales Tax Exemption Card.
The rebate offers seniors a rebate of sales taxes paid on certain expenses, including CBJ utilities, garbage collection, food from the grocery store, heating fuel, landfill charges and more. An applicant’s approval is based on his or her gross annual income, which is defined as a person’s total annual compensation. Questions can be directed to the CBJ Sales Tax Office.
