FAIRBANKS — The National Weather Service has revised its forecast of bitter cold temperatures for interior Alaska, including Fairbanks.
The agency says temperatures of minus 40 or colder are no longer in the forecast for next week.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported that instead, the weather service expects a winter storm to bring 4 to 8 inches of snow to Fairbanks and surrounding areas.
Lows of 15 to 30 below zero will accompany the snow, which could start Friday morning.
The heaviest snowfall, from 15 to 20 inches, is forecast for the eastern Alaska Range.
This storm will be accompanied by gusty northeast winds that could reduce visibility over the summits on the Elliott, Dalton and Steese Highways through Saturday.
