A pair of visiting Maine snowboarders were rescued from a snowy situation Saturday on Haines’ Mount Ripinski.
According to a dispatch shared by the Alaska State Troopers, Patrick Pritchard and Erin Kelly were descending the mountain when they became lost in a gully about 2 miles northeast of the city as night fell.
While the lights of Haines were visible, Pritchard said by cellphone, the pair didn’t know their exact location. Local search crews arrived and began checking trails. The pair were found on the Piedad Trail about two and a half hours after the initial call for help.
Pritchard and Kelly were uninjured and escorted to the trailhead.
