Two popular Juneau fishing spots are now closed or have had sport fishing rules amended.
From July 1 through July 31, sport fishing on Fish Creek Pond will be closed.
Additionally, king salmon fishing was closed July 1 within a 300-yard radius of the Wayside Park Fishing Dock on Channel Drive, across from the Empire building and adjacent to DIPAC. Snagging is also now prohibited in that area. This closure will last through August 31.
Both changes from the Alaska Department of Fish &Game will help Douglas Island Pink and Chum (DIPAC) hatchery reach broodstock goals. A failure to meet broodstock goals would mean DIPAC wouldn’t be able to supply the same amount of salmon in coming years.
