Another person in Juneau has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a City and Borough of Juneau news release that cited Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.

How the person contracted the virus is under investigation, according to CBJ.

Prior to Thursday, the most recent positive case in Juneau was reported May 22, according to CBJ and DHSS. The state hasn’t yet been able to identify the source of the virus for that case, indicating community spread. According to DHSS, the person started exhibiting symptoms May 17.

Thursday was the first day in weeks that Alaska’s cumulative case count rose by double digits, the Associated Press reported.

The last double-digit increase was reported on April 12, when 15 cases were announced.

Alaska now has reported 425 total cases of COVID-19 involving residents, with 10 deaths. It also has reported 17 cases involving non-residents.

Cumulatively, 32 people from Juneau have tested positive for COVID-19 since March; 29 of those people have recovered, according to CBJ and DHSS. Statewide, the State of Alaska reports 425 cumulative cases; 366 have recovered. The state has also had a total of 17 nonresident cases.

All tests from the Emergency Operations Center’s voluntary testing effort of individuals experiencing homelessness have come back negative, according to CBJ and DHSS. A total of 78 people in Juneau were tested May 19-20.
