The state reported a new single-day high in COVID-19 cases.
Sixty-three cases among Alaskans and 14 cases among nonresidents in the state were reported Saturday by Alaska Department of Health and Social Services.
A message was sent to DHSS seeking clarification. It was not immediately returned.
The 63 newly reported resident cases and 77 total cases are both single-day highs, according to state data. Most of the new resident cases were reported for Anchorage — 29 — and the Fairbanks North Star Borough — 24.
A new case in Juneau was also reported. It was the second day in a row a new case was reported for the city. No new nonresident cases were reported for Juneau.
In addition to the dozens of new cases, the state reported five new hospitalizations. That raises the total to 85. There are 31 current hospitalizations, according to state data. There were no new deaths reported.
There have now been 1,658 COVID-19 cases — 1,385 resident and 273 nonresident — reported by the state since March. There are 770 active cases among residents, according to DHSS, and so far, 598 people have recovered. Seventeen Alaskans have died with COVID-19.
