The state reported Saturday dozens of new COVID-19 cases and one new death.
The new death brings the number of Alaskans who have died with COVID-19 to 16. The deceased was an Anchorage man in his 70s with underlying health conditions, according to a Department of Health and Social Services spokesperson. It is unclear when the man died.
Of the 55 newly reported cases, 48 involved residents and seven involved nonresidents, according DHSS.
No new residential cases were reported for Juneau, but a nonresident case was reported for the capital city. State data did not indicate why the person was in Juneau.
There are three active resident cases in the city, according to City and Borough of Juneau’s COVID-19 dashboard, and one active nonresident case.
Two-thirds of the new cases involving Alaskans — 32 cases — were reported for Anchorage, according to the state.
There have now been 1,111 cumulative COVID-19 cases involving Alaskans —551 are active cases and 544 people have recovered, according to state data.
