The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation has failed to find any Fukushima radiation in Alaska-caught fish, the department reported Monday.
Since the meltdown of the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear power plant in 2011, DEC – in conjunction with other state and federal agencies – has sampled various species of Alaska seafood to ensure they remain uncontaminated.
The latest samples were taken in August and September from Pacific cod and pollock in the Aleutians and Bering Sea. The samples didn’t contain detectable levels of any of the three isotopes most commonly associated with Fukushima radiation.
