ANCHORAGE — Heavy snow and unseasonably warm weather has prompted a small stream flood advisory for parts of the Kenai Peninsula.
The National Weather Service has issued a small stream advisory through Tuesday afternoon for streams on the western peninsula south of Kenai.
The agency said temperatures as high as the lower 40s may melt the recent heavy snowfall, putting significant amounts of runoff into streams and rivers.
The area also could see rain in the next few days.
The weather service said the two factors could result in an elevated chance for stream flooding.
Portions of the Anchor River are susceptible to high water because of an ice jam that occurred earlier this year that remains frozen in place.
