Between Thursday night and Saturday morning, Juneau is expected to get about four inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
As moisture from ex-hurricane Lester moves over the panhandle, meteorologists predict that the communities in the region could see two to five inches of rain. Higher elevations could get as much as eight inches of rain by Saturday morning.
The heaviest rain is likely in the north-central inner channels of Southeast Alaska.
Though the forecast isn’t calling for flooding at this time, the NWS has advised people who live or play near small streams to be alert.
The city has asked boat owners to check their vessels. The city’s Docks and Harbors Division is advising people with moored boats to make sure their lines are secure and that they aren’t collecting rainwater.
Capital City Fire/Rescue posted a status on its Facebook page encouraging people to make sure they are prepared for power outages at home. CCFR also recommended people to update their home emergency plans if need be.
