Taku Winds to evoke Rome in concert

A symphonic tribute to the City of Rome takes center stage at Taku Winds’ upcoming concert this Sunday, Oct. 29, at 3 p.m., in the Thunder Mountain High School auditorium. Popular among Juneau music lovers, Taku Winds is an ensemble of wind and percussion musicians, conducted by William Todd Hunt.

Ottorino Respighi’s “Feste Romane,” a classical work featuring jubilant brass, woodwinds, and a variety of percussion instruments, will be performed along with Richard Wagner’s Overture to “Rienzi,” his opera set in medieval Rome. Rounding out the program will be Johannes Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture and David Maslanka’s Requiem for Wind Ensemble. Dr. Maslanka appeared in Juneau with Taku Winds in 2015; the performance this Sunday commemorates his passing in July of this year.

Tickets to the concert are $20 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, Hearthside Books, online at the JAHC’s website (https://jahc.org/box-office/) and at the door.
