The Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute will hold a celebration to commemorate the center’s 10th anniversary of work at Lena Point.
The event runs from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.
At 1 p.m., the Ted Stevens Foundation and family members will dedicate a bench in memory of Sen. Ted Stevens, Alaska’s longtime U.S. senator. The institute is named in his honor.
Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, may attend the event, and attendees include the Alaska head of NOAA Fisheries, James Balsiger, Juneau Mayor Ken Koelsch, University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Richard Caulfield, and the leaders of the marine institute.
Public tours of the marine institute will take place throughout the afternoon, and scientists will explain the research underway at the facility. The event is free.
