On Aug. 20, 1986, candidates for lieutenant governor fought hard in the Republican primary debate and 16 Juneau legislative candidates collected a total of $246,313 from local residents and political action committees.
Meanwhile, many Alaskans were struggling to pay for housing amid Alaska’s budget crisis. With decreasing property values and lower income wages, many Juneau homeowners were worried. In the past six months, the number of foreclosures marked by the Alaska Housing Finance Corp had increased to 614.
After 10 years on the project’s twisting road, the Alaska Trams Inc.’s proposed hotel on Mount Juneau filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Act.
