On June 5, 1986, over $2 million was set by the City and Borough of Juneau Board of Education for school building repairs. Repairs included Auke Bay School’s parking lot and water line installation; Capital School’s roof and window replacement; two of Floyd Dryden Middle School’s classrooms and the replacement of Juneau-Douglas High School’s gym floor.
Around downtown Juneau, the Fun Cops, a group of fake police officers, walked around town dispersing fake tickets and fining $5 to tourists “having too much fun” in order to fundraise for local organizations. The mixed reactions from both street vendors and incoming tourists have spurred a small debate regarding the group’s fundraising method.
