On Nov. 10, 1986, the U.S. House of Representatives was controlled by the Democratic party, having won 24 seats in the last election. Republican incumbent Don Young won Alaska’s seat.
A bout of unexpected snow coated Juneau’s streets as residents woke up in the morning. Although the City and Borough of Juneau Public Works was equipped for snow removal, six inches of snow surprised most everyone.
The CBJ Board of Education prepared to discuss a report on the closing of schools and rearranging of attendance boundaries for its meeting the next day. The monthly report was the first to be mandated along with the adoption of a school closure policy.
