On Nov. 13, 1986, Juneau Mayor Ernie Polley was facing backlash after holding a private, informal meeting with City and Borough of Juneau Assembly members on non-city related manners. Two Department of Fish and Game employees were working on a petition to repeal him, and stickers with the phrase “Repeal Polley” took over a few Juneau cars. The petition was a direct result of the mayor’s handling of the Open Meetings Act, and its supporters called for open government and increased transparency.
Meanwhile, a former Alaska Army National Guard recruiter received a 60-day jail sentence after being convicted of soliciting prostitutes.
Up on Eaglecrest, Juneau residents were hoping for more snow, having received only 14.3 inches in the past few days. The ski resort would have to wait until another foot of snow for the slopes to open.
