On Monday, Oct. 20, 1986, the U.S. Congress finished its 99th term after approving funding for several Alaska projects, including construction of the Crater Lake hydroelectric project. There were some interesting write-in votes found after the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly votes were certified Monday. A Seattle Seahawks player and a few Walt Disney characters earned a few votes, but the numbers were nothing compared to the winners of the race. In total, 7,117 Juneau residents came to vote during the municipal election, which was 42 percent of registered voters in town.
Meanwhile, the Alaska State Troopers found the body of a man who allegedly died from a cocaine overdose over the weekend a mile downstream from the Montana Creek bridge. Four men were arrested and scheduled to appear in court in connection to the man’s death.
