On Oct. 9, 1986, an anonymous artist created three whale tails in the mud near Gold Creek as part of an on-and-off anonymous public earthwork series throughout the years. One of the artists who gave no reason for its placement, stated “The meaning, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.”
In a statement made by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Juneau was set to lose 24 jobs to Anchorage. Some positions, however, were being worked on so they would not have to be relocated. For others, the BIA planned to add new positions to replace the ones lost.
The Alaska Housing Finance Corp. planned to keep bond sales low, a move that would hopefully helping Juneau’s real estate market stay competitive yet affordable during the state’s financial crisis.
