On Sept. 10, 1986, the City and Borough of Juneau deputy mayor proposed the CBJ add $100,000 to Juneau’s education budget. The proposal was to be reviewed later at a CBJ meeting.
In other local news, the CBJ Assembly agree to require no building setback from the bike path on Vintage Business Park. The decision satiates a fight between the park’s developer and the Juneau Planning Commission.
Meanwhile, Gov. Bill Sheffield and Steve Cowper met and discussed Alaska issues such as the Red Dog mine, subsistence, the Permanent Fund and the economy. Cowper had won the Democratic primary for governor a little over a week before, and the two rivals appeared to be working together to weed out hot-topic state issues before the gubernatorial election begins.
