On Sept. 24, 1986, 75 people joined the search for a missing teenage boy. The 17-year-old was last seen intoxicated at 1 a.m. at a drinking party near Mendenhall River. The head of the investigation, the Alaska State Troopers, told searchers that the teen may have drowned or died of hypothermia near Dredge Lake.
In budget-related news, the state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities cut about one-third of snow removal in Juneau for the winter. The cut in funding meant more restrictions on winter storm response.
Meanwhile, the Juneau Planning Commission approved development on one part of Pinewood Park Subdivision near Lemon Creek and a 40-space Montessori day care. Most of the Pinewood project was delayed, along with an installation of a six-bed home proposed by the Juneau Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
