The Tlingit & Haida Central Council has a caffeine conundrum on its hands.
The organization has two coffee shops, but not a name for either one, so it’s turning to the public for help. Until May 12, members of the community can head to Tlingit &Haida’s Surveymonkey page and suggest a name for the coffee shops. Within the first 24 hours of the survey opening Tuesday, nearly 100 people submitted ideas, T&H Communications Coordinator Raeanne Holmes said Wednesday.
The two shops are located at the Andrew Hope Building on Willoughby Avenue and at the Vocational Training &Resource Center on Hospital Drive. Both shops serve coffee made by Skyaana Coffee Co., a Native-owned coffee roaster in Klawock. The shop at the Andrew Hope Building has been running since Tribal Assembly in April, and is open from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Entrants in the naming contest have a chance to win $100 cash, a $50 coffee card and a gift bag. The winner will be announced at the grand opening event for the Andrew Hope Building coffee shop. The date for that ceremony has yet to be determined.
