Alaska State troopers will be on high alert this holiday break, with extra traffic enforcement focused on seat belt safety.
Troopers will also focus their attention on impaired driving, speeding, aggressive driving and distracted driving. The intention of the focused enforcement is to bring the number of major-injury or fatal collisions on Alaska’s roads down to zero.
Complementing the enforcement effort is the release of a new seat belt public service announcement video, “Showing Up.” It can be found at youtube.com/watch?v=wo2yedzCbgw.
Troopers are encouraging drivers to, as always, practice safe driving behaviors on the roads while traveling to and from their destinations.
Drivers should not only wear their seat belts, but also encourage passengers to buckle up and ensure that children are properly restrained using appropriate safety equipment.
Troopers also encourage everyone to report any dangerous driver immediately by calling 911.
