ANCHORAGE — Alaska State Troopers have released the names of two officers who fatally shot a man with a knife outside Palmer on Thursday night.
Troopers said Sgt. Jacob Covey, an officer since September 1998, and Trooper Christopher Havens, an officer since February 2012, fired their service weapons.
Trooper Timothy Cronin, an officer since February 2008, used a stun gun.
The troopers fired their weapons at 33-year old Joshua Smith of Wasilla, who died of his injuries Friday morning at an Anchorage hospital.
Troopers responding to a disturbance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday found Smith at a nearby intersection.
Troopers said that while officers talked to Smith, he charged them with the knife and was shot.
Smith suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
