An unsolved homicide went cold for years until recently, as two Juneau men were arrested and indicted Wednesday for a 1995 murder, according to a release from the State of Alaska Department of Law.
The Juneau Police Department SWAT unit arrested 49-year-old Duwaine Edward Price and 44-year-old Browne Larry Willard III on Wednesday night in Juneau, according to a JPD release. A grand jury indicted each of them on one count of second-degree murder for the 1995 killing of Jerry Dillivan in Anchorage.
Price and Willard are set to be arraigned at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, according to an online court calendar. The arraignment will take place in Anchorage, and Price and Willard will attend via telephone from Juneau. Both defendants face a potential sentence of up to 99 years in prison for the alleged crime.
The arrests come 22 years after 25-year-old Dillivan was found dead at a gas station in Anchorage, apparently beaten to death. The Anchorage Police Department received a call at 7:22 a.m. on Nov. 21, 1995 from the Texaco station on Muldoon Road in Anchorage. The caller reported that she came to work and found a man dead behind the gas station, and APD identified Dillivan when they arrived.
The case went cold for many years, according to the release, but a Crime Stoppers tip and subsequent DNA match helped investigators make progress in the case.
According to the JPD release, APD requested assistance in arresting the two men Wednesday. At about 4:33 p.m. Wednesday, JPD arrested Willard at a residence in the 1000 block of Capital Avenue. At about 7:03 p.m., JPD located and arrested Price during a traffic stop that took place on Glacier Highway near Channel Vista.
Price and Willard are currently being held at Lemon Creek Correctional Center. Bail for both of them was set at $500,000.
