University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Dr. Rick Caulfield was appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Presidential Committee on Teacher Education.
The committee is charged with advising AASCU on initiatives in public policy, both federal and state, aimed at improving teacher education and improving credibility and integrity of university education programs nationwide.
UAS produces a number of teachers annually through its education degrees.
In a press release from UAS, it said the UA system seeks to significantly increase the number of Alaska-educated teachers hired each year, as most teachers are hired out of state; Dr. Caulfield expects to contribute to this effort by highlighting Alaskan issues and concerns at the national level and by also bringing insights about federal policy and national best-practices back to Alaska.
