JUNEAU — The University of Alaska Southeast has created an endowment in the name of former Alaska Attorney General Grace Schaible to support visiting faculty, researchers, artists and Native elders.
The endowment was created following the sale of a home in Juneau that Schaible donated to the university in 1989. The university says visiting scholars and researchers for years stayed at the property along the Mendenhall River.
The university says one of the stipulations tied to the donation of the house was that the proceeds from any sale of the property would be put into an endowed fund, with its earnings used in support of the university.
University Chancellor Rick Caulfield said Schaible’s generosity and legacy won’t be forgotten.
Schaible, who lives in Fairbanks, was attorney general from 1987 to 1989.
