In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the United Way of Southeast Alaska AmeriCorps Program is collecting donations around town.
All month, the organizations are collecting feminine hygiene products, baby formula and diapers at Juneau-Douglas High School, Foodland, Superbear and the Juneau Public Libraries (downtown and Douglas locations). The items will be donated to AWARE, Haven House, Love INC and St. Vincent de Paul.
In addition, the Black Awareness Association of Juneau will be holding a service to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The United Way of Southeast Alaska’s AmeriCorps program is funded through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service and administered by Serve Alaska. These funds help recruit, train and deploy 2,500 volunteers to address local needs in education, public safety, environmental protection and other needs of Alaska residents.
