No, that wasn’t a typo on your billing statement this week. Water and wastewater rates just went up.
Rates went up 6.5 percent on July 1 for water and 8 percent for wastewater, and the rate increase is reflected on bills that went out this past week. This rate increase is part of a five-part plan that included two rate increases in 2015, one in 2016, one this year and one more in 2018.
The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly approved this rate plan in its June 30, 2014 meeting. Revenue from this increase will go toward water and wastewater maintenance, debt financing from Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation loans and capital projects directed at infrastructure.
Those using the “Bill-Pay” function through their bank will need to update their account to reflect the new rates. Customers using CBJ’s “Easy Pay” don’t need to make any changes.
