The Valdez Museum is seeking proposals from artists interested in creating a memorial to the victims of the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake in Valdez.
The earthquake destroyed the Prince William Sound community, but it was subsequently rebuilt on higher ground nearby. The memorial is planned for Dock Point Park and has a budget of between $75,000 and $250,000, according to an email from the museum. Designs should recognize the victims of the tsunami and the subsequent Air National Guard plane crash.
Only Alaska artists may apply, and submissions are due by July 1.
