The final day of the waterfowl hunting season in the Juneau area is Monday, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced in a Wednesday press release.
This closure date is earlier than past years and follows the Southeast Alaska Board of Game’s decision to alternate the season’s start and end dates to accommodate hunters wishing to harvest early- and late-season waterfowl species, according to the release.
Starting this year, odd-year seasons go Sept. 1- Dec. 16, and even-year seasons go Sept. 16-Dec. 31.
The release also stated the first two days of each season in the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge are reserved for youth hunters. All hunters who obtained a wetlands permit (WU001) this season must report by Dec. 31.
