A stream of subtropical moisture will splash Southeast Alaska this weekend, the National Weather Service expects.
In a special weather statement issued Friday morning, the Weather Service forecast office in Juneau said the wet weather will reach southern Southeast as early as Saturday, then spread northward. Juneau is expected to see the heaviest weather by Sunday and Monday.
“Two to four inches of rainfall is expected across the region, with locally higher amounts,” the Weather Service statement said.
Wet conditions will be accompanied by high winds at times. Gusts of 40 to 50 mph are expected along the coast, and 40 mph gusts could be seen on interior waters.
Ahead of the storm’s arrival, the docks and harbors department of the City and Borough of Juneau cautioned mariners to check their boats and their moorings.
